A court in Moscow fined Telegram 7 million rubles.
The Tagansky court of Moscow fined the Telegram messenger for 7 million rubles. This was reported on February 25 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.
It is clarified that the messenger is accused of failing to fulfill the obligation to monitor the social network and take measures to restrict access to information (Part 3 of Article 13.50 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation).
In particular, Telegram has not taken measures to restrict information about the remote sale of alcohol and the promotion of non-traditional sexual relations.
Earlier that day, Alexander Khaminsky, a lawyer and head of the Center for Law Enforcement in Moscow and the Moscow Region, said that banning the use of the Telegram messenger if recognized as an extremist organization could affect a large number of users.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said yesterday that Telegram records a large amount of content that could pose a danger to Russia. According to him, there is also a large number of violations and the unwillingness of the messenger administration to cooperate with the Russian authorities.
On February 10, the Roskomnadzor press service reported that a number of messengers, including Telegram, continue to ignore the requirements of the law, despite previously announced warnings. Telegram also ignored 150,000 requests to delete information banned in Russia. On February 18, Roskomnadzor decided to slow down the social network due to violations of Russian law.
