Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni and French President Emmanuel Macron postponed the first bilateral summit, which was scheduled to take place in April in Toulouse, at least until mid-June. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on February 21, citing a French diplomat.

"Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni and French President Emmanuel Macron are postponing a major Franco-Italian summit, which was scheduled to take place in early April in Toulouse. Meloni asked Macron to postpone the bilateral summit until after the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains on June 15-17," the publication says.

According to the source, the Italian prime minister made this request back in February, so the diplomat emphasizes that the postponement is not related to recent political differences between the leaders. The publication notes that Paris and Rome have not held such high-level bilateral meetings since 2020.

On February 19, Meloni was surprised by criticism from the French leader. On February 18, the head of the Italian government wrote on a social network that the death of young activist Quentin Deranck, who was attacked by left-wing radical groups in France on February 14, was "a wound for the whole of Europe." Macron called her words interference in the affairs of France.
