The Munich Conference is losing its status as a dialogue platform where serious issues are discussed. This was announced on February 18 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"It is safe to say that the trend associated with the loss of the status of the Munich Conference as a dialogue platform for serious discussions on the problems facing the world is confirmed," she said at a briefing.

Zakharova noted that the Munich Security Policy conference was held for the 62nd time and that it has a long history. However, according to the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, its name "has long been inconsistent with the stated theme."

The Politico newspaper reported on February 13 that an informal meeting of the leaders of the European Union (EU), to which eight countries were not invited, ended in failure due to the lateness of some leaders and the lack of concrete discussions during the negotiations. The event was attended by 19 of the 27 EU leaders, which, according to the newspaper's sources, "raised concerns among the uninvited leaders of the union," as the meeting was held in a closed format.

The chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Wolfgang Ischinger, said the next day that Europe had completely withdrawn from resolving the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, the leading players in the discussions on the Ukrainian issue are the Russian Federation and the United States.
