Clinical psychologist named the causes of narcissistic trauma
Clinical psychologist and body therapist Sergey Volkov noted that narcissistic trauma, the concept of which was introduced by the founder of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud, should not be confused with narcissistic personality disorder, which refers to psychiatric disorders.
"Narcissistic trauma is a type of mental trauma in which self—esteem is impaired, depending on external factors and other people's opinions. People who are characterized by it have short periods of self—confidence and a sense of superiority, but most of the time they feel shame, fear and anxiety about the imaginary "exposure" of their own insignificance," the specialist explained.
According to Volkov, narcissistic trauma most often occurs in children who are not given any emotional support, deny their uniqueness and endlessly demand to prove the right to love and recognition.
"In this scenario, he is recognized as a person only if the parent sees his "correct" behavior or action. The child has to survive between denying himself and being punished for his existence. He grows up convinced of his own insignificance and always tries to prove the opposite," the expert explained.
At the same time, according to Volkov, people who are used to constantly proving their worth often achieve heights and become socially very successful.
