It became known about the blocking of more than 200 thousand channels in Telegram per day

The Telegram messenger blocked more than 200 thousand groups and channels on Sunday, February 15. Information about this follows from the statistics of the platform.

According to RIA Novosti, 235,282 communities were blocked by the end of the day. This was the highest daily figure since January 23, when restrictions affected 300,840 groups and channels.

Since February 1, Telegram has restricted access to more than 1.8 million communities, and since the beginning of the year their number has exceeded 7.2 million. Of these, about 27.2 channels were associated with terrorist propaganda, according to the messenger.

What is known about the situation around the work of Telegram in Russia

The day before, the head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Sergei Boyarsky, said that Telegram's management was in contact with Roskomnadzor (RCN) and was deleting some of the materials on demand. The parliamentarian noted that the messenger does not comply with several requirements of Russian legislation, however, according to Boyarsky, "it remains for him to take a few steps forward" in order to build relations with the Russian authorities and remove restrictions.

On February 10, the RCN press service reported that a number of messengers, including Telegram, continue to ignore the requirements of the law, despite previously announced warnings. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on February 11 that the legislative measures introduced in Russia regarding Telegram were binding. He added that the Kremlin is aware of contacts with Telegram representatives.
