Nikolai Sukhov, a leading researcher at IMEMO RAS, expressed the opinion that Russia's proposals on possible participation in the export or processing of enriched uranium are considered as a step aimed at reducing international tensions over the Iranian nuclear program.

In an interview with the Mail News on Thursday, February 5, the political scientist noted that Moscow had previously offered to remove part of its enriched uranium reserves, recycle it and return it to Iran in the form of fuel with a lower level of enrichment, which can be used for peaceful energy purposes.

The expert noted that the movement and storage of such materials in Russia under international control could be a guarantee that Iran does not accumulate radioactive substances on its territory, which potentially reduces the risk of escalation of conflict or military intervention by other states.

Sukhov also pointed out that Tehran's position opposing the export of uranium outside the country reflects Iran's desire to preserve its sovereign right to its own nuclear materials. According to the political scientist, this issue remains one of the main obstacles in negotiations with the United States and intensifies the confrontation between the parties.

The expert added that Iran's refusal could push Washington to find new instruments of pressure or compromise solutions, as well as encourage Tehran to make concessions in technical aspects, such as the level of uranium enrichment or inspections. He stressed that despite the ongoing tensions, the diplomatic process continues, as neither side is interested in direct confrontation yet.

Earlier on February 5, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia was not imposing itself on the United States, Iran and Israel. Meanwhile, she cares about how the situation in the Middle East will develop, writes RT. He also stressed that the aggravation of relations between Iran and the United States is potentially explosive, Regnum news agency reports. According to him, Moscow's main goal is to help resolve problems through peaceful negotiations and international cooperation. 360.ru .

On February 4, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Russian proposal to export enriched uranium from Iran continues to be relevant. She also noted that decisions regarding the use of uranium reserves are made exclusively by the Iranian side.

On February 3, it was reported that Iran demanded that the talks be postponed from Turkey to Oman. The Iranian side opposes the participation of representatives of several Arab and Muslim countries as observers, the National News Agency writes. Prior to this, Tehran had indicated its readiness to make a deal with the United States by suspending or completely shutting down its nuclear program.
