The identity of the tycoon who tried to bring a fragment of the Aletai meteorite from St. Petersburg to the UK has become known. This was reported on February 5 by a source of Izvestia.

It is noted that businessman Alexey Voronetsky sent a rare specimen weighing more than 2.5 tons from Belarus to England, declaring it as a sculpture for landscape design.

At the same time, the meteorite was transported from Belarus by truck to St. Petersburg, but the delivery was suspended by customs officers halfway through. In addition, the examination estimated the cost of the meteorite fragment at about 323 million rubles. At the moment, a criminal case has been opened on the smuggling of strategically important goods.

On this day, a fragment of the Aletai meteorite weighing over 2.5 tons was prevented from being illegally exported to the UK by Baltic customs officers. The goods were discovered during the scanning of a shipping container in the port of St. Petersburg.
