Politico reported optimism in the United States and Kiev ahead of talks with Russia
The second round of talks between Russia, Ukraine and the United States, which will be held on February 4-5 in Abu Dhabi, may turn out to be more productive than previously expected. This was reported on February 4 by the American newspaper Politico, citing Ukrainian and American officials.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, the participants in the negotiation process began to behave more constructively, despite the fact that previously such formulations were often used without real content. One of the American foreign policy experts who advised Kiev noted that previous rounds of negotiations were "akin to pulling teeth without anesthesia."
"I notice that the Russian side is taking these negotiations more seriously," Politico quoted the expert as saying.
In his opinion, the changes became noticeable after the renewal of the Ukrainian delegation. The expert also expressed "cautious optimism," stressing that there are "reasonable chances to end the conflict in the spring."
On the same day, Kirill Dmitriev, special representative of the President of Russia for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, posted a photo of Abu Dhabi, where the next round of negotiations between Russia, the United States and Ukraine on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict will take place.
Yesterday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that the Russian delegation to Abu Dhabi would again be led by Admiral Igor Kostyukov, chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
On the same day, it became known that Special Envoy Steven Witkoff's plane landed at Abu Dhabi Airport.
On February 2, Peskov announced that the second round of trilateral talks between Russia, the United States and Ukraine is scheduled for February 4-5. He added that agreeing on the date required coordinating the schedules of all three parties.
