On February 2, US President Donald Trump announced that India had allegedly agreed to stop buying Russian oil after a conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"He (Modi — Ed.) agreed to stop buying Russian oil and buy much more from the United States and possibly Venezuela," he wrote on the Truth Social network.

Trump also said that the parties had agreed to reduce mutual tariffs and increase purchases by the Indian side of American energy, technology, agricultural products and coal worth over $500 billion.

The American leader called Modi one of his greatest friends and a respected leader, stressing that their agreements would strengthen relations between the two countries.

On the same day, Trump announced that the United States had concluded a favorable trade deal with India. He noted that the document was agreed upon out of Washington's friendship and respect for Modi.
