Nutritionist Andrey Bobrovsky told who should be careful when eating tomatoes.

In an interview with Radio 1 on January 29, he noted that excessive consumption of tomatoes can lead to unexpected consequences. According to him, tomatoes in very large quantities can cause lycopenoderma, a harmless orange tinge of the skin that resolves on its own after reducing their consumption.

Bobrovsky noted that tomatoes should be limited or excluded from the diet for a number of people. These include patients with gastritis, peptic ulcer and gallstone disease, kidney disease, gout, and allergies. He explained that the acids in tomatoes can irritate the gastric mucosa and provoke the release of bile.

The specialist also pointed out that special care should be taken by people taking anticoagulants, drugs to reduce blood clotting and medications to normalize blood pressure.

According to his recommendation, for most healthy people, 200-500 g of fresh tomatoes per day is considered a safe norm — this is about 1-3 medium-sized fruits, which allows you to benefit without the risk of negative effects.

Earlier, paramedic Natalia Balan said that tomatoes contain many useful substances that are necessary at any age. In particular, they contain large amounts of lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that helps lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease, as well as protect body cells from aging.
