An accident occurred at one of the power units of the Moldovan State Regional Power Plant (GRES), which supplies the region with electricity, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) reported on January 22.

"Due to an accident at one of the power units of Moldavskaya GRES, during the elimination of the accident and the launch of the power unit, it is possible to stop the supply of electricity for a short period in some areas of the republic," the agency said in a Telegram channel.

It is specified that the responsible services in the energy sector have started urgent work. It soon became known that electricity from Moldavskaya GRES began to flow into the region again. After emergency work is carried out, consumers are gradually connected to the network.

In October 2025, Pridnestrovian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Obolonik announced the introduction of a gas economy regime in the republic by the end of the month. He specified that the production of electricity for the population, necessary for household and humanitarian needs, will be arranged as a matter of priority. After this period, all consumers will be provided with gas in a normal mode, he said.
