Problems in relations between the allies should be solved through discussion, not pressure. This was announced on January 17 by Finnish President Alexander Stubb, commenting on the threat of tariffs from US President Donald Trump.

"In relations between allies, problems are best solved through discussion, not through pressure," he wrote on the social network X.

Stubb noted that strengthening Arctic security in cooperation with partners is strategically important for Finland. The same goal is at the heart of the initiatives in Greenland, which are led by Denmark and coordinated by the Allies.

According to the Finnish President, European countries remain united and emphasize their commitment to the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as support Denmark and Greenland. He also added that the dialogue with the United States continues.

Earlier in the day, Trump announced the introduction of duties of 10% against France, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Finland due to Greenland, which he believes is necessary for the United States.

The day before, the head of the Belgian Ministry of Defense, Theo Franken, announced that the EU has a "plan B" in case the United States decides to seize the island by military means. He stressed that the participating countries want to make it clear to Washington that they can solve the problem if it arises.

French President Emmanuel Macron said that Trump's threats against Europe to impose duties on the Danish autonomous unit of Greenland were unacceptable and would be met with a coordinated response.

On January 17, Reuters reported that the ambassadors of the EU member states had been summoned to an emergency meeting in Brussels to discuss the issue of the US seizure of Greenland and the duties imposed by the American president on a number of Western countries.
