President of the Council of the European Union (EU) Antonio Costa said that the participating countries have begun preparing a unified response to the duties imposed by US President Donald Trump against a number of Western countries. This was reported by the Handelsbatt newspaper on January 17.

Costa stated that he is coordinating a joint European response to the latest tariff threats by US President Donald Trump. The EU will always defend international law very resolutely," the article says.

It also clarifies that the relevant statement was made by the President of the EU Council during a press conference.

On January 17, the American leader imposed 10 percent duties against France, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Finland. French President Emmanuel Macron on the same day called the decision "unacceptable and unacceptable" and promised a response to Trump that would be prepared by European countries.

The Reuters news agency later reported that the EU ambassadors had been summoned to an emergency meeting on January 18. The event, initiated by the Cyprus presidency of the alliance, will begin at 16:00 GMT (19:00 Moscow time).
