Spanish police have stopped the smuggling of almost 10 tons of cocaine
Spanish police have arrested a merchant ship with almost 10 tons of cocaine hidden among the salt. This was announced on January 12 by the press service of the national police.
"Agents of the National Police carried out the largest seizure of cocaine on the high seas in the history of this police, intercepting a merchant ship containing 9994 kg of cocaine hidden among a shipment of salt," the press service said in a statement on its website.
It is noted that 13 crew members were arrested along with the ship and firearms were seized, in addition to drugs. The support of the Maritime Safety and Rescue Society (SASEMAR) was required as the vessel ran out of fuel and drifted in the water for almost 12 hours, requiring it to be towed to the Canary Islands.
The head of the German Federal Criminal Police Agency (BKA), Holger Munch, said on October 25 last year that drug cartels had found new ways to transport cocaine to Europe, hiding the drug in the supply of fruit juice and spices. Later, cocaine is extracted from mixtures in illegal laboratories located in industrial areas.
