Sales of new passenger cars in Russia decreased by 16% in 2025

By the end of 2025, almost 1.33 million new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 15.6% less than in 2024. This is stated in the report of the analytical agency Autostat, which was received by Izvestia on January 13.

About a quarter (24.88%) of total sales are accounted for by the Lada brand, which sold 329.9 thousand copies in 2025. A year earlier, its share was about 28%.

Haval remained the most popular foreign brand last year, with 173.3 thousand cars sold. The next two positions in the ranking are also occupied by brands from China — Chery and Geely (99.8 thousand and 94 thousand units, respectively).

The top five leaders were supplemented by the Belarusian Belgee, which sold 68.1 thousand vehicles. This is followed by Chinese Changan (66.2 thousand units) and Jetour (36.5 thousand units), domestic Solaris (34.5 thousand units) and Tenet (33.5 thousand units). Toyota rounded out the top ten (29.1 thousand units).

According to analysts, Haval lost the least in sales among the brands represented (-9.1%), while Chery (-36.4%), Geely (-36.9%) and Changan (-37.6%) sank the most noticeably. Among those brands that show positive dynamics, Solaris (+132%) and Belgee (+96.5%) stand out. Experts drew attention to the 40.3% sales growth at Toyota, whose cars are not officially supplied to Russia.

As for December, 136.5 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia during the month (+10.6% YoY). Compared to the annual brand rating, there is no Chery in December, but BMW is present, completing it. Lada led it, Tenet closed the top three, and Toyota was in seventh position.
