- The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the British ambassador because of the flag removed from the embassy in London.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the British Ambassador to Tehran, Hugo Shorter, to clarify the situation surrounding the Iranian diplomatic mission in London. This was reported on January 11 by the Tasnim news agency.
The ministry also expressed strong dissatisfaction with the actions related to the "desecration of the flag" in London.
"Protest was expressed against the continued presence and activities of some terrorist organizations that spread lies and promote violence and terrorism against the Iranian nation under the guise of the media," the publication says.
In addition, the Iranian side recalled the legal and international obligations of the British government related to countering organizations and financing terrorism, and its abstention from any support for terrorist activities. It was also stressed that effective measures should be taken by the relevant State authorities to stop the activities of such media outlets.
On the same day, the Reuters news agency reported an increase in the number of protests in Iran to 538, including 490 protesters and 48 security personnel. Over 10.6 thousand people were also arrested during the protests. It was noted that the demonstrations affected more than 180 cities in Iran.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said on January 9 that Iran's youth and the entire nation must maintain unity that will allow them to defeat any enemy. After that, the Supreme National Security Council of Iran accused the United States and Israel of organizing riots on the territory of the state.
