Rallies have begun in New York against the backdrop of the start of the US military operation in Venezuela and the detention of President Nicolas Maduro. The corresponding footage is published by Izvestia on January 4.

The footage shows local residents waving Venezuelan flags.

"After the statement of the mayor [of New York, Zohran Mamdani] about the recklessness of the author of one of the most high-profile adventures in world history, the marchers demand [US President Donald] Trump and his team should resign," journalist Elena Prokhorovskaya described the situation.

According to her, residents of the business capital are blocking the streets a few blocks before Trump Tower and chanting insulting chants at him. It is expected that the trial of Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores, will take place in New York.

On January 3, Trump announced that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike against Venezuela. He noted that the President of Venezuela and his wife were captured and taken out of the territory of the state.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the American leadership to release Maduro. In addition, the Ministry also stressed the need to create conditions for resolving existing problems between the parties through diplomatic means.

The American leader later stated that there was extensive evidence of Maduro's alleged crimes. Thus, the president of Venezuela, according to his information, personally supervised the activities of the Cartel de los Soles (Cartel of the Suns. — Ed.), who was transporting drugs to the United States.

The Noticias Telemundo TV channel reported on January 4 that Maduro is at the office of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in New York. It is clarified that after arriving at Stewart Air Base, the Venezuelan leader was taken to a helipad in Manhattan, from where he was redirected to the office.
