Hundreds of Victorian-era boots washed up on a beach in western Britain
Several hundred Victorian-era boots have been discovered on a beach in the western part of the UK. This was reported by the BBC on December 24.
"Black leather boots, believed to date back to the 19th century, were discovered by volunteers cleaning at Ogmore Beach in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales," the article says.
According to volunteer Emma Lamport from the Beach Academy social enterprise, locals suggest that the shoes could belong to a sunken Italian cargo ship that allegedly collided with a nearby rock about 150 years ago.
"Some of the shoes are in pretty good condition," Lamport added.
As the volunteer noted, similar shoes have been washed up on the beaches of Ogmore and Llantuit for many years. Writer Lara Mikalem confirmed that the shoes are "definitely Victorian."
On December 22, British archaeologists revealed traces of handprints, well-preserved textile fragments and materials with potential DNA traces during a re-examination of a rare Roman burial in a plaster sarcophagus found in York. It was about a stone sarcophagus filled with plaster, dating from about the II century AD.
