Cloudy weather will remain in Moscow this weekend, with no significant precipitation and a temperature background significantly exceeding the climatic norm. As Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonovosti news agency, told Izvestia on December 19, the weather will be determined by an area of high atmospheric pressure, along the periphery of which weak fronts may slip.

"Night temperatures in the capital will be -1... +1 degrees, daytime temperatures will be 0... +2 degrees. Thus, the temperature background will remain above normal by about five to six degrees. However, these Saturdays and Sundays will be the last relatively warm days in December," she said.

According to the forecaster, starting next week, a change in atmospheric circulation is expected: the westerly flow will change to the north-west, and then to the north. Cold air advection will begin on December 23rd, which will lead to a sharp drop in temperature during the day.

A day earlier, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, Roman Vilfand, announced the onset of frosts up to -40 degrees in a number of Russian regions. The forecaster noted that such a situation will be observed in the Khabarovsk Territory, Amur Region and Yakutia. In addition, the air temperature in some areas located in the north of the European part of the country will be significantly lower than normal.
