The Oscar ceremony will be broadcast on YouTube starting in 2029.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and YouTube have signed an agreement that will grant the video platform exclusive rights to broadcast the Academy Awards. This was announced on December 17 on the award's website.
"We are very pleased to have entered into a multi—pronged global partnership with YouTube, which will serve as a broadcast platform for the Academy Awards and our year-round Academy programs in the future," said Bill Kramer, CEO of the Academy, and Lynette Howell Taylor, President of the Academy.
It is specified that the agreement will enter into force from the 101st ceremony in 2029 and will last until 2033.
On December 16, the Oscar website announced the inclusion of the animated film "Three Sisters" by Russian animation artist Konstantin Bronzit (credited as Timur Kognov) in the Oscar shortlist in the Best Animated Short Film category. It was clarified that the names of the Oscar nominees will be announced on January 22, and the award ceremony itself will be held on March 15.
