Szijjarto declared the rise of "military fanaticism" in Western Europe
Western European leaders are gripped by "military fanaticism" and are trying to undermine the dialogue between Moscow and Washington. This was announced on December 17 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto during a live broadcast from New York.
"Military fanaticism has engulfed Brussels and Western Europe, and now, instead of contributing to the success of the US-Russian negotiations, they are again organizing against the peace agreement and putting forward proposals that have been rejected hundreds of times before, proposals from which it is clear that nothing will happen," he said.
According to the diplomat, Budapest supports peace initiatives, but it has to observe how the leadership of the European Union (EU) and a number of Western European countries are hindering high-level negotiations between Russia and the United States.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier in the day that Western countries had started the conflict in Ukraine in 2022, and Russia was trying to end it. He recalled that initially Moscow tried to resolve the conflict by peaceful means through negotiations in Minsk, but later it was forced to seek a settlement by armed means, realizing that it was being deceived. Putin also accused the West of deliberate escalation.
The Steigan portal reported on December 11 that after the end of the conflict in Ukraine, EU countries will try to provoke Russia and may form an alliance with nationalists in Kiev. Zoltan Koshkovich, an analyst at the Hungarian Center for Fundamental Rights, said on December 12 that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's statement on the need for Europe to be prepared for conflict speaks to the alliance's desire for war.
Putin said on December 2 that Russia was not going to go to war with Europe. According to him, the Russian Federation is currently operating in Ukraine "surgically," but in the event of an attack by European countries on Russia, everything will be different.
