- The Russian Foreign Ministry announced work on humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka due to Cyclone Ditva
Russia is working on the issue of providing humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka in connection with the consequences of Cyclone Ditva. This was announced on December 3 on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
"A request for humanitarian assistance has been received from the Sri Lankan side. The issue of sending it by special flight is being worked out through the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations," the ministry said in a statement.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 410 people died and 336 are missing as a result of floods and landslides. There were no Russian citizens among them.
"According to the Russian Embassy in Colombo, Russian citizens were not injured in the disaster," the document says.
The situation in the country is normalizing: airports and resort infrastructure are functioning normally.
On December 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in connection with the numerous victims of the floods. The Russian leader asked on his behalf to convey words of sympathy and support to the families and friends of the victims, and also wished a speedy recovery to the victims of the disaster.
