Russia is calm about the US statements about the possible resumption of nuclear tests, as it has breakthrough and unparalleled samples of the latest weapons. This was announced on November 19 by Russian Ambassador to Washington Alexander Darchiev.

"Such U-turns by the current administration are dictated by the desire to ensure US military superiority. In Moscow, they are perceived calmly in the light of breakthrough and unparalleled samples of the latest weapons created in recent years and reliably ensuring the security of our country," the ambassador said in an interview with the Kommersant newspaper.

Darchiev added that Russia has never refused to have a dialogue with the United States on this issue and stressed that the prerequisites for its launch will mature when Washington's policy changes for the better towards Moscow.

Prior to that, on October 29, US President Donald Trump issued a statement instructing the Pentagon to begin testing nuclear weapons "on an equal basis." Chris Wright, the head of the US Department of Energy, said that Washington's nuclear tests will be subcritical — they will take place without nuclear explosions.

On November 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, the special services and civilian departments to make proposals on the possible start of work on preparations for nuclear weapons tests. He clarified that Russia is ready for adequate measures in the event of US nuclear tests.
