Arshavin questioned the admission of the Russian national team to Euro 2028
Former Russian national football team player Andrey Arshavin said on November 18 that he did not believe that the Russian national team would be allowed to participate in the 2028 European Football Championship.
"I don't believe it. In any case, this will definitely not be decided on the sidelines of football organizations, it will be decided on the ground," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
According to the decision of FIFA and UEFA, Russian national teams and clubs have been banned from participating in international competitions since February 2022.
On March 26, the Independent reported that UEFA had launched the process of returning Russian national teams and clubs to international tournaments. In addition, there are high-ranking football figures who would bring back Russian teams "tomorrow." Some believe that Russia should not have been suspended at all, the article says.
Later, on September 17, a number of European countries strongly opposed Russia's return to international tournaments during a meeting of the executive committee of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) held on September 11. Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Ukraine, as well as France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, England, Scotland and Iceland opposed Russia's participation in international competitions.
