Politico reported on the neglected state of the British Prime Minister's residence
The residence of the British Prime Ministers on Downing Street is in a neglected state, with problems with mice and heating in the building. This was reported on November 14 by the newspaper Politico.
"The building is spread over four floors with mice in the basement, mesh curtains, toilets like grandma's, moody heating and intermittent phone signal. This is the office of the British Prime Minister," the publication says.
According to one of the interlocutors of the publication, Prime Minister Keir Starmer hates working in the residence. Another official also noted that he doubted that any of the prime ministers liked working there. Officials compared office showers to toilets, and the heating is always too hot or cold, the newspaper added.
"Most people, especially Americans, come here and are a little surprised at how dilapidated everything here is. The curtains are a little frayed, or there are tears on the carpet that have been temporarily patched up with duct tape, but no one has done a proper repair," an ex-aide to former Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the publication.
Earlier, on November 9, the Daily Mail newspaper reported that residents of the British county of Oxfordshire were promised road repairs in a century. At the same time, according to local residents, the condition of the roads makes driving dangerous, they have not been repaired for more than 40 years.
