- NBC talked about the rules for confirming the viewing of films by members of the Oscar jury
The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has introduced new rules for confirming the viewing of films by members of the jury before voting for the Oscar. This was reported on November 14 by the NBC television channel with reference to an email from the academy.
"According to the new policy, films that academy members watch on the Academy Screening Room streaming service will be automatically confirmed. Films that academy members watch in other places, for example, at film festivals, they must manually mark as "watched" on the academy's streaming service, website or application," the material says.
The letter emphasizes that without a mark on watching all the necessary films, a member of the academy will not receive the right to vote at the Academy Awards. The jury members will receive notifications about the categories in which they will watch films in order to get the right to vote.
According to the publication, three anonymous members of the academy expressed doubts about the effectiveness of the system, noting that the inclusion of the film on the streaming service does not guarantee its actual viewing.
The press service of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on April 22 that the Academy Award ceremony is scheduled for March 15, 2026 in Los Angeles. The film Academy also clarified that the use of artificial intelligence in the creation of films will not increase or decrease the chances of receiving a nomination, but the degree of creative authorship will be taken into account when evaluating.
