Circumstances of the accident

• An accident involving Russian tourists occurred on November 11 at approximately 4:00 a.m. on the Hurghada–Cairo highway running along the Egyptian coast of the Red Sea. A tourist bus heading from Hurghada to visit archaeological sites in Cairo collided with a heavy truck 5 km from the city of Ras Ghareb. Ambulance crews went to the scene, they took the injured to hospitals in the city.

• The Prosecutor's Office of the Red Sea Province has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accident and appointed traffic experts to inspect the scene. A preliminary inspection revealed that the front of the tour bus had been smashed.

• According to local media, there were 39 people on the bus. A bus driver and a Russian tourist were killed. Another 26 Russian citizens, two vacationers from Lithuania, seven Finnish tourists, among whom, according to preliminary data, there were several teenagers from 11 to 17 years old, and two Egyptians, including the second driver and the tour guide, were also injured. The Russian Consulate General in Hurghada confirmed the death of a Russian woman.

• After being examined by doctors, five Russians remained in hospitals with injuries of varying severity. Most of the tourists were taken back to Hurghada hotels after receiving first aid. The injured were visited at the hospital by Kamal Suleiman, Secretary General of the Red Sea Province, and Mohammed Salal, Mayor of Ras Ghareb.
