A recreational bathyscaphe carrying 45 tourists from Russia, as well as foreigners, crashed near the coast of Hurghada, Egypt, on Thursday, March 27. According to the latest information, six people died in the Sinbad recreational bathyscaphe crash in Egypt near the hotel of the same name. Five more remain inside the bathyscaphe, at depth, the Egyptian Ambulance service told RIA Novosti.
According to the Russian Consulate General in Hurghada, there were a total of 45 Russians on board, including minors, as well as crew members.
According to initial reports, most of those on board were rescued and taken to their hotels and hospitals in Hurghada. Their state of health is not a cause for concern.
The accident occurred at about 10:00 Moscow time at a distance of 1 km from the coast, when the bathyscaphe was carrying out a regular underwater tour of the coral reef. According to the Arabic Al-Masry Al-Youm, the boat sank. At the same time, the publication claims that four of the rescued are in critical condition.
The Egyptian authorities have sent a large number of rescue boats to the site of the sinking of the submarine. Tourist boats located near the accident site are also involved in search and rescue operations.
The Russian Consulate clarified that all Russian tourists were clients of Biblio Globus (the host travel company in Egypt is Biblio Globus Egypt Tours). At the same time, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Hurghada, Viktor Voropaev, said in a conversation with RIA Novosti that the citizenship of the victims is still being determined.
