Online sales: employers are increasingly looking for students for part-time jobs
Employers began to look for students for part—time jobs more often before the November holidays - compared to September 2025, the number of such offers increased by almost half in October. However, since the beginning of the year, young people have been actively calling for temporary work according to a convenient schedule. Retail is struggling for such employees, they are being sought for couriers, and demand from banks is growing rapidly. At the same time, the universities themselves have felt such intense interest — in some of them they talk about a 10-fold increase in the number of offers from employers. How and where students are looking for a part—time job and how much they pay for it - in the Izvestia article.
Students are offered to earn extra money
The demand for students to work part-time jumped sharply in the third quarter of 2025, especially in a number of positions, according to data from recruiting services.
Thus, the number of offers marked "for students" increased by 54% when searching for truck drivers, and the number of such vacancies for bank employees increased by 52%. They are also actively looking for young storekeepers — more often by 41%, the Avito Part-time Job service said.
But in general, until now, companies have most often been looking for part-time salesmen and consultants, couriers, packers and pickers, as well as drivers (19 thousand), according to the hh.ru .
The Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug has become one of the leading regions in terms of growing demand for part—time retail employees - companies were looking for performers for part-time jobs in retail 43% more often, and the average remuneration offered was about 27,543 rubles per month. The Novgorod Region also entered the top of the most active regions in terms of growing demand for performers in retail trade, where the number of part-time work options increased by a third, and an average of 32,675 rubles per month were offered for part-time employment in this position.
The number of offers also increased in the Tyumen Region (+12%), where, on average, performers could count on 20,514 rubles per month for part-time employment. The Orenburg Region also entered the top with a 12% increase in demand, where specialists were offered an average of 21,221 rubles per month for part-time work.
"This makes it easier for companies to plan resources and quickly meet their needs, and for performers, the part—time job format means they can independently choose the schedule, number and format of shifts, conveniently integrating part—time work into their pace of life," said Sergey Yaskin, director of Avito Part-time Job service.
At the same time, the search for students began especially actively in October — compared to September, the number of vacancies for students increased by 46%. The experts interviewed believe that this is how they are looking for temporary employees during the long weekends and November holidays.
— In 2025, 10% of the company's staff are part—time employees, that is, they are not limited to one part-time job. Flexible employment is especially in demand in key professions for stores: these are the positions of a sales floor employee, customer service, production worker, cashier. It is in these roles that part—time performers become indispensable during the high season — during sales periods, before holidays or in the summer, when permanent employees go on vacation," said Daria Demina, HR Director at Auchan Retail Russia.
Why did they start looking for students for part-time jobs more often?
Universities confirm that the number of offers from employers is growing.
"After the Student Career Forum, which was held at the Presidential Academy in October this year, the number of offers and vacancies from employers increased about 10 times," Anna Khripchenko, director of the RANEPA Career Center (Presidential Academy), told Izvestia. — In the 2024-2025 academic year, the university received more than 5,000 job offers and internships from employers.
She also said that the university, together with the recruiting company Superjob, has launched a service for finding and selecting vacancies and internships for students and graduates of the academy.
— More than 3 thousand vacancies and internships have been collected across the country. Now there are more than 32 thousand people on the service, and everyone has found interesting options for themselves with vacancies and internships," Anna Khripchenko assured.
The situation was also confirmed at the Moscow Polytechnic University.
— Yes, indeed, the flow of employers' appeals to students for both full—time and part-time jobs has increased, - said Evgenia Korshunova, deputy head of the Career and Employment Center at this university. — This is due to the need for quick and flexible solutions to personnel problems, as well as economic factors and demographic changes in the labor market.
She noted that it is students who, in conditions of record low unemployment and acute shortage of personnel, are an extremely attractive resource for the prompt resolution of personnel issues.
For businesses, finding students for part—time jobs is an opportunity to quickly complete tasks, said Sergey Yaskin. He also noted that this is a mutually beneficial trend, and students can gain their first experience in the labor market and achieve financial independence by combining work with study.
The service's analysts also studied in which regions, in positions available to students, the business offered the highest remuneration for part-time work. The first place is occupied by the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District (62,164 rubles per month), followed by the Tyumen and Leningrad regions, where performers could expect an average of 54 thousand rubles per month for part—time work.
There are two parallel trends in Russia right now: a massive shortage of personnel and staff optimization due to a lack of funds for their maintenance, Anna Polyakova, an economist and head of the Moscow branch of the Independent Trade Union Novy Trud, told Izvestia.
"The second trend is not yet universal, but it is noticeable for the labor market: one and a half times more companies plan to reduce staff," she said.
And in conditions when loans are too expensive, it is becoming more difficult to pay high salaries, and there are no fewer demands on the employee, the popularity of recent graduates and students is increasing, the expert noted.
