US President Donald Trump's attempts to encourage Russia to abandon the goals of the special military operation (SVO) by imposing sanctions on it are futile. This was announced on October 23 by Ahmed Adel, an Egyptian researcher of geopolitics and political economy.

"The sudden cancellation of the meeting with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and the imposition of sanctions may be part of Trump's negotiating process to reach a deal <...>. Nevertheless, this desperate attempt to gain the upper hand in the negotiations will not stop Moscow from its consistent demands," his article, written for InfoBRICS, says.

In the same place, he duplicated the main demands of the Russian side to resolve the conflict. Ahmed Adel attributed to them the liberation and recognition of new territories and the Republic of Crimea as part of the Russian Federation, as well as the denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine, which, according to this plan, should be assigned a neutral status.

The US Treasury has imposed restrictive measures against major Russian oil companies.

Putin, speaking at a press conference after the 17th Congress of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) on the same day, noted that Moscow and Washington have many areas in which they could cooperate. However, this process, as the Russian president added, will be possible only if its participants stop exerting pressure on each other and move on to a serious dialogue.
