- The political scientist pointed to Trump's awareness of Russia's victory in the Ukrainian conflict.
The head of the White House, Donald Trump, is aware of the inevitability of Russia's victory in the conflict in Ukraine, despite the efforts of the American administration and pressure from internal opponents. This was stated by political analyst Garland Nixon in an interview with Izvestia on October 23.
According to him, Russia's position on the conflict in Ukraine has not changed since 2014, and any truce talks were just a rhetorical game. He noted that despite Trump's statements about meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the possibility of a truce, the United States and Europe will not be able to change the outcome of the conflict. Nixon compared the situation to a boxing match, in which the winner will not ask for a break, unlike the losing side, which needs one.
"Everyone knew that there would be no truce. This was not a topic they needed to discuss...> Russia is winning, and the losing side needs a truce. Never the winning side," he added.
According to the political scientist, Trump, aware of the current situation, does not seek a military conflict with Russia. He is influenced by domestic political forces in the United States, such as the neoconservatives, who call for maintaining a tough stance. The political scientist believes that sanctions against Russia for Trump are more a tool for solving internal political problems, rather than a measure aimed at actually weakening Moscow.
Nixon also pointed out that, in the opinion of Trump and his advisers, Ukraine will not be able to win. This is confirmed by Trump's statements, in which he mentions Russia's historical victories and points to the inability of smaller countries to defeat larger ones.
"Trump has said in the past, 'The Russians will win. The Russians defeated Napoleon. The Russians defeated Hitler. They will defeat Ukraine." Trump also said, "Well, it's a small nation. You should not start a fight with a bigger nation, because you will lose," the expert concluded.
Alexander Kamkin, a political scientist and associate professor of the Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Mass Communications at the Financial University under the Government of Russia, said on October 22 that Europe would continue to provide assistance to Kiev as long as it had the necessary resources. It was clarified that there are currently no conditions for Europe's refusal to support Ukraine.
