Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has called for the creation of a national and international movement to reject any threat of war in the Caribbean and South America. This was reported on October 15 by the Efecto Cocuyo portal with reference to Maduro's statement at a meeting of the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace.

Nicolas Maduro called for the creation of a national and international movement that will oppose "any threat of war in the Caribbean and South America, contributing to reaching a consensus in favor of peace," the publication said.

Maduro also stressed the need to counter the United States.

Earlier in the day, the NYT newspaper reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump could have secretly authorized the CIA to conduct operations in Venezuela as part of a pressure campaign on Maduro. According to the newspaper, the CIA allegedly received the so-called presidential find — a secret permit giving the agency the right to conduct "deadly operations" in Venezuela and the Caribbean. The sources specify that the actions can be carried out either independently or with the support of the US Armed Forces.
