Transnistria considered Chisinau's chances of a fair election victory to be zero
The ruling pro-presidential Action and Solidarity (PAS) party in Moldova will not be able to win the parliamentary elections in the country in a fair fight. This opinion was expressed by Andrei Safonov, deputy of the Supreme Council of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), in an interview with Izvestia on September 26.
"The pro-presidential forces have no chance of winning the parliamentary elections in a fair fight. The socio-economic policy of the current regime has destroyed all chances to win a real victory, but if there is falsification in foreign polling stations, I think they will try to announce this," Safonov said.
He noted that this raises two questions: do the opposition forces have a sufficient number of observers both inside Moldova and abroad, and do they have the opportunity to provide a good information assessment and coverage of the elections.
According to the MP, if the opposition fails to do this, the PAS will remain in power. In addition, Safonov stressed that the current Moldovan authorities deliberately restrict access to voting for citizens of the country who live in Russia and in the Transnistrian region.
Earlier, on September 15, Ilan Shor, the leader of the bloc of opposition parties Pobeda, said that Moldovan President Maia Sandu and her ruling party had intensified repression against the opposition in order to intimidate it before the upcoming parliamentary elections. He noted that before the elections scheduled for September 28, the Moldovan National Anti-Corruption Center (NCCC), under the jurisdiction of the head of state, detained several representatives of the bloc.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on September 24 that a significant part of the Moldovan population, which advocates good relations with the Russian Federation, was deprived of the right to vote in their country.
