US President Donald Trump's sudden reversal in statements on Ukraine is a strategic step to step up negotiations between Moscow and Kiev. This was reported by The New York Post newspaper, citing a source in the American administration.

"Yes, that's right. This is not a signal of any significant policy changes. This is a clear and obvious negotiating tactic aimed at putting pressure on Russia," the source said, answering a question about whether the words of the US president are a strategy for starting the negotiation process.

The source added that Trump's statement was also based on information about Moscow's alleged military and financial difficulties, which, in turn, was conveyed to him by the special representative of the American leader, Keith Kellogg.

Earlier on September 23, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, after meeting with US President Donald Trump, announced a change in the American leader's position on the exchange of territories between Moscow and Kiev as part of the peace process. According to him, the head of the United States understands that an exchange is impossible.

Later, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Putin appreciates the constructive relationship he has with Trump. The press secretary of the head of state added that the Russian leader, like his American counterpart, remains interested and open "to the conclusion of the entire Ukrainian history in the direction of a peaceful settlement." Peskov also pointed out that Moscow is counting on Washington's continued assistance in finding ways to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.
