The DPRK has imposed a ban on the use of certain Anglicisms. This was reported on September 12 by the British newspaper The Sun.

North Korean President Kim Jong-un, according to the newspaper, added the words "karaoke", "hamburger" and "ice cream" to the list of prohibited words. The purpose of this measure is to teach tourists the use of vocabulary acceptable in the DPRK.

"Guides meeting Russian and Chinese tourists at the famous Wonsan resort were advised to avoid Anglicisms popular in the West and South Korea. Approximately 20-30 guides undergo a thorough training program conducted by officials of the personnel department of the Workers' Party of the DPRK in Kangwon Province," the material says.

According to the newspaper, after completing the course, guides must pass an exam, after which they are allowed to work.

Earlier, on July 31, the South Korean authorities lifted restrictions on contacts with the DPRK. On August 9, the DPRK began dismantling loudspeakers installed along the border for noise campaigns against South Korea.
