More than 126 thousand people took part in protests against student rallies in Serbia
In Serbia, more than 126,000 people took part in protests against students and opposition representatives who, as part of anti-government protests, block traffic on roads and other infrastructure facilities. This was stated on September 7 by Police Director Dragan Vasilyevich during a briefing by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which was broadcast on YouTube.
"The Center for Public Stability has coordinated mass gatherings called "Stop blocking" in 111 settlements. 126,399 people gathered in all these places," he said.
It is reported that during the actions, conflicts sometimes broke out between the participants of the events and the opposition. In this case, the guards separated the two crowds and set up cordons.
Earlier in the day, mass rallies were reported in support of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and the Serbian Progressive Party. Similar actions took place in more than 100 cities across Serbia.
On August 27, Vladimir Zharikhin, a political scientist and deputy director of the CIS Institute, told Izvestia that the incitement of anti-government actions in Serbia is connected with the desire of the European Union (EU) to integrate the state into the "marching ranks" of all European countries.
Anti-government protests began after 15 people died in the collapse of the railway station in Novi Sad in November 2024. The protesters blocked bridges and roads.
