Peskov said about the collision of the global economy with tariff wars
The global economy is facing tariff wars. This was announced on September 7 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov at the Eastern Economic Forum 2025 (EEF 2025).
"Brazil is not the only country facing the consequences of tariff wars. Actually, the entire global economy is facing this one way or another," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to Peskov, the further consequences of the implementation of such measures are unknown to anyone. He added that Brazil uses all mechanisms, including BRICS, to exchange views on the US tariff wars and develop common approaches.
In addition, Peskov also stressed that Brazil opposes harsh measures of "economic pressure."
On July 9, US President Donald Trump imposed trade duties of 50% on goods from Brazil. Brazilian President Lula da Silva criticized the decision on July 11, calling it unfair and noting that Brazil would not jeopardize its national institutions.
On August 29, Globo newspaper announced the Brazilian government's intention to take retaliatory measures against the United States — it will take about seven months to complete this process, which has already begun discussions in the country. It is assumed that the Brazilian side will also hold a number of "formal consultations" with Washington on this issue.
Later, on September 4, Gustavo Raposo, Director of the International Media Department of the Brazilian Presidential Administration, told Izvestia that the Brazilian BRICS presidency was planning to hold a virtual summit on September 8. According to preliminary information, during this meeting, da Silva intends to discuss with the heads of 11 countries of the bloc the actions of the United States that can influence the development of the multilateral world.
