- The EC announced its intention to cancel duties on all industrial goods from the United States.
The European Union (EU) intends to abolish duties on all manufactured goods from the United States. This was announced on August 21 by European Commissioner for Trade Maros Sefcovic.
"The Commission is taking concrete steps to eliminate tariffs on all U.S. manufactured goods and expand market access for American seafood and agricultural products," the commissioner said in a statement posted on the official website of the European Commission (EC).
According to the statement, the EU and the US were able to conclude an agreement on the introduction of zero or "near zero" tariffs for strategic areas, which include some natural resources, aircraft and generic pharmaceuticals.
In addition, as part of the deal, the EU also intends to purchase $750 billion worth of American liquefied natural gas (LNG), oil and nuclear energy products by 2028.
The United States and the European Union agreed on a trade deal on July 28. The agreement will allow the EU to avoid 30% duties that could be imposed by Washington. As a result of the deal, the European Union remains with 15% tariffs on most of its exports, including cars. US President Donald Trump stressed that such an agreement "satisfies both sides."
