August entered the top 10 rainiest months in Moscow in 25 years

Before the end of the month, August 2025 entered the top ten rainiest months in Moscow since the beginning of the 21st century, while rains are still expected in the remaining decade. Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, announced this on Thursday, August 21, in his Telegram channel.

He noted that there had been no heavy rains in the Moscow region last night, although the amount of precipitation at some weather stations in the Moscow region was only slightly different from this category.

"But there was significantly less rain in Moscow. So, according to the base weather station of the megalopolis, VDNKh, only 4 mm of precipitation fell overnight, but this was enough to bring the total amount of precipitation in the August piggy bank to 79 mm, which is already 1% higher than the monthly norm," the Moscow City News agency quotes the forecaster.

Leus specified that in the Moscow region, the most precipitation fell in the northern half of the region. According to the meteorologist, September weather has settled in Moscow and the region — rains and a noticeable cold snap are expected in the region, according to the website kp.ru .

The heat in Central Russia will return only at the end of August and will remain at the beginning of September, meteorologists believe.

In turn, the chief specialist of the Moscow Meteorological Bureau, Tatyana Pozdnyakova, warned of a sharp cold snap in the metropolitan region on August 21, RT reports.

On August 19, the Meteonosti news agency reported that it was not worth counting on the continuation of summer in September. At the same time, forecasters did not rule out that a short warm weather is possible in early autumn.

Prior to that, on August 18, Alexander Shuvalov, head of the Meteo forecasting center, said that heavy rains were not expected in the next two days. According to his forecast, heavy precipitation will come only on Thursday, when, together with the cold front, the temperature will drop from +19...+21 to +17 degrees.
