Imperfect summer month: how is the beginning of autumn expected
Meteorologists warned Izvestia that summer should not continue in September. High temperatures are possible at the very beginning of autumn, but the weather will quickly return to normal. The last weeks of summer 2025 will be cool and rainy in the European part of the country. Temperatures slightly above normal are possible only in the final five days of August. About how to mentally and physically prepare for the change of seasons so that it goes smoothly — in the material of Izvestia.
What will the end of summer and the beginning of autumn look like?
The beginning of September in Central Russia is forecast to be warm, but it will not become another summer month, as it was last year, meteorologists told Izvestia.
The penultimate week of summer is expected to be cool, said Tatiana Pozdnyakova, chief specialist of the Meteonosti news agency.
— Throughout the week, the air temperature in the capital region will be one and a half to three degrees below the climatic norm, and the nights will also be noticeably cooler. Saturday, August 23rd, is expected to be especially cool, with temperatures of only +14...+19 degrees. In addition, it will be a rare day without precipitation," she stressed.
In general, the weather in August will be close to autumn: sky clearings will alternate with rains.
"But it won't be the warm rains that make you happy, but those that last for a long period," believes Tatiana Pozdnyakova.
So far, the monthly precipitation rate at the VDNKh weather station has not been met, but the situation may change in the near future — rains are expected, the meteorologist added. At the same time, this norm has already been exceeded in some places in the Moscow region.
However, there is hope that in the last five days of August, the daytime air temperature will approach at least 25 degrees for one or two days, Tatyana Pozdnyakova assured. But a strong surge in heat is not expected.
Moderate cool weather with temperatures below the climatic norm will be in Central Russia by the end of the month, said Alexander Shuvalov, head of the Meteo forecasting center.
— The rains will be of variable intensity, the heaviest precipitation is expected at the end of this week due to the release of a southwestern cyclone from northern Italy to the middle zone of the European part of Russia, — he said. — The temperature will fluctuate: at the beginning of the week it will be 19-21 degrees, the second half of the week — 15-18 degrees. It's cool enough.
The temperature regime, when the thermometer is about 20 degrees, may persist until the end of August and capture the first days of September, he believes. Although it is too early to give accurate forecasts for the beginning of autumn, he said.
The Phobos weather Center adheres to a more optimistic scenario.
"Summer will not leave in English and finally slam the door loudly. In the final days of August, there is a chance of warming to +25... +30 degrees," they said.
And after the warm start of September, autumn will quickly come into its own. The average temperature background in September, as well as the amount of precipitation, will be close to their long-term norm. For Moscow, it is +7.1 degrees at night and +15.4 degrees during the day.
How to help the body with the changing seasons
The transition from summer to autumn rarely goes unnoticed by the body, doctors told Izvestia. Feeling tired, drowsiness, decreased concentration, frequent colds and mood swings may indicate that the body is not coping with the transition between the seasons, explained Olga Chistik, a therapist at the Scandinavian Health Center.
— Temperature fluctuations and reduced daylight hours force the body to spend additional resources. The hormonal background is changing, especially the levels of melatonin and cortisol, which affects the functioning of the immune system," she noted. — Lack of sunlight reduces the production of vitamin D, which increases susceptibility to viruses and worsens overall well-being.
Against the background of these processes, the immune system becomes less stable, which increases the risk of colds and other diseases, the doctor emphasized.
— Most often during this period, people experience constant fatigue, drowsiness, decreased attention and mood swings. Colds, headaches or muscle pain, and skin and hair deterioration are not uncommon,— Olga Chistik added.
Chronic illnesses, including allergies, may also worsen.
To help the body adapt to the changes, the doctor recommended that you follow a sleep pattern, So you need to go to bed and get up at the same time, sleep for at least 7-8 hours.
— One to two hours before bedtime, you should turn down the lighting and give up gadgets. It is useful to ventilate the room and maintain air humidity. Dinner should be light and no later than two hours before bedtime. If you have difficulty falling asleep, quiet evening rituals help: walking, reading, and a warm shower," the doctor said.
To strengthen the immune system, she says, you need a varied diet with enough protein, complex carbohydrates and fats.
— In autumn, it is important to include seasonal vegetables and fruits, foods with vitamin C, iron and zinc. Sea fish, nuts, legumes, and whole grains are useful. Doctors most often recommend vitamin D, as well as vitamin C, zinc, and B vitamins," Olga Chistik explained.
Regular exercise also helps to adapt to the changing seasons. Moderate walking, swimming, cycling, yoga or Pilates are suitable. Consistency is more important than intensity: 30-40 minutes a day is enough. And strength training is better combined with stretching and breathing exercises.
In autumn, many people feel tired, anxious or depressed — this is a natural reaction to a change in rhythms, added psychologist and family therapist Olesya Kushnareva.
— You can support yourself with simple but regular steps. Small rituals help a lot: a walk in the afternoon, tea with spices in the evening, meetings with loved ones, reading or music before going to bed. The psyche perceives such "points of support" as stability, and this reduces the level of tension," she recommended.
The off-season can exacerbate accumulated psychological problems, the expert added. Turning to a specialist for support at this moment is a normal and mature step that helps to cope with the internal burden. This will help prevent chronic fatigue or depression.
