Hutsul's defense appealed her verdict to the Chisinau Court of Appeal.
The defense of the head of the Gagauz Autonomy, Evgenia Gutsul, filed a complaint against the court verdict with the Chisinau Court of Appeal. Her lawyer Natalia Bayram informed Izvestia about this on August 20.
"The appeal was filed in accordance with the procedure," she said.
Bayram clarified that the 15th day of the sentence of the head of Gagauzia is currently passing.
On August 16, thousands of Gagauz residents arrived in Chisinau to participate in a peaceful protest against the illegal detention of Hutsuls. Bashkan's supporters chanted slogans and called on the Moldovan authorities to resign.
On the same day, Moldovan police officers prevented supporters of the Pobeda opposition bloc from setting up tents at the Chisinau railway station. The law enforcement officers used force techniques and grabbed the participants to take them to the police station.
On August 5, the head of Gagauzia was sentenced to seven years in prison in the case of allegedly financing the Shor party. Initially, the prosecutor's office requested nine years. On the same day, Hutsul reported on the great support provided to her. Gagauz residents gathered outside the courthouse, where her family members were not allowed to enter at the time of sentencing. Later, on August 13, international lawyers joined in defending the Hutsuls' interests.
