Almost half of Russians want to find additional earnings, recruitment services told Izvestia. The highest proportion of those in need of part-time work is in three regions: Dagestan, Arkhangelsk and Kirov regions. According to analysts, about 60% of residents there are interested in additional workload. This is due to both the economic situation in the regions and their geographical location, as well as the spread of seasonal employment there, experts believe. About what areas Russians are looking for part—time work in and why it is important to arrange it correctly, see the Izvestia article.

How to find a part-time job

Dagestan topped the ranking of regions where residents are most often looking for a part—time job - 63% of people said they needed to earn extra money. Such data follows from a recruitment service study available to Izvestia. hh.ru .

The Arkhangelsk Region came in second place, where 62% of residents need a part—time job, and the Kirov Region came in third (59%). The Ulyanovsk, Pskov, Ryazan regions and the Trans—Baikal Territory were also included in the rating - in all these regions, more than half of local residents intend to look for additional earnings this fall.

Across the country, 47% of Russians said they needed a part-time job and additional income. During the year, the share of such citizens as a whole increased by 4%. Moreover, 6% of the country's residents already have several jobs.

Komi residents often work in more than one place, 16% of respondents in the region said. Similar indicators are found in the Astrakhan region, Udmurtia and the Tomsk region.

"Most of all, workers in the field of art and mass media want to find a part-time job to maintain their budget. Beauty and fitness industry workers came in second place, while doctors and teachers came in third," the study says.

In all these areas, more than half of the employees are looking for additional ways to earn money. In July of this year, three out of ten economically active Russians (28%) reported having a part-time job, SuperJob added. A year ago, 24% of Russians had this indicator.

Every second employee in the country would like to find a part-time job. It was most often offered to sales consultants and cashiers, couriers, teachers, drivers and storekeepers. At the same time, the applicants mainly offered the services of sales or customer service managers, accountants, designers, design engineers and truck drivers.

Most of the vacancies for part-time workers turned out to be in Moscow and the region, St. Petersburg, the Sverdlovsk Region, the Krasnodar Territory, Tatarstan and the Chelyabinsk region.

In the first half of 2025, performers' interest in part-time work in the hotel business and tourism increased 2.5 times, and in agriculture by a third, according to Avito Part—Time Work.

— There is a particularly noticeable increase in interest in part-time work in the resort regions. So, in the Astrakhan region, interest in part-time work in tourism has increased 2.4 times. Significant dynamics were also noted in the Rostov Region, Dagestan and the Krasnodar Territory. In the first half of 2025, the average remuneration for part—time employment in tourism in these regions was about 44.5 thousand rubles per month, the service said.

On average, part-time work brings Russians about a fifth of their monthly income, they added.

Where can I earn extra money

People are most often driven to find part-time work by economic reasons: low salaries at their main job, delayed payments, rising prices and tariffs, and high loan servicing costs, experts interviewed by Izvestia noted. In conditions of financial instability, people tend to create a safety cushion, said Oleg Abelev, head of the analytical department at the Rikom-Trust investment company.

— The flexible employment format itself is also actively developing. For example, there are platforms for part-time work, which makes additional earnings much more affordable than six or seven years ago," he explained.

In addition, artificial intelligence now helps to quickly complete simple tasks and earn additional funds for them, added Elena Trayanovich, Head of Ingo Bank's Personnel Recruitment and Adaptation Department.

— Modern technologies and flexible work formats make additional employment more accessible and convenient to combine with the main job. And the instability of the labor market stimulates the diversification of income sources, reducing dependence on one employer," she believes.

In the regional context, the request for additional work is usually related to the specifics of the labor market and the salaries offered, experts say. For example, Dagestan has a low level of official salaries compared to the Russian average, said Elena Kiselyova, an analyst at the Institute for Integrated Strategic Studies.

— At the same time, informal employment is developed there, including sole proprietors and their employees: self-employment and platform employment; work in a household with the production of products for sale. Many people work without any formalization or contract," she said.

At the same time, there are many young able-bodied people in the region who are more likely to work part-time. In addition, the tourism sector is actively developing in Dagestan, which is characterized by temporary seasonal employment.

The Arkhangelsk Region is also seasonally diverse, Oleg Abelev added.

In the northern regions, many industries such as fishing and logging are highly dependent on the time of year. This forces us to look for additional sources of income in other periods," he said. — There are also high prices in these areas due to logistics, salaries do not always compensate for this. There are migration outflows of young people. Those who stay are forced to work harder to provide for themselves.

Another important factor is the difficult transport accessibility of all three regions, where part—time work is most popular, added Roman Yerkhov, CEO of TuBi recruitment company.

— In Dagestan, the mountainous terrain and the remoteness of many settlements from major economic centers limit the choice of employers. Arkhangelsk Region is facing the problem of northern logistics: The seasonal dependence of transport routes and the remoteness of the areas make the labor market fragmented. In the Kirov region, the railway and automobile infrastructure is unevenly developed, and it can be quite expensive to get to work in a neighboring area," he said.

In such conditions, according to the expert, people are forced to consider different formats — part-time employment, remote work, seasonal part-time jobs. At the same time, the development of remote work helps residents to find income outside the region.

How to apply for additional employment

When choosing a part-time job, you need to take into account several nuances in order not to face claims from the tax authorities or the main employer, the lawyers reminded Izvestia. First of all, it is important to pay attention to the proposed design option, said Alexey Gavrishev, head of AVG Legal.

— For example, a part—time employment contract assumes fixed employment with the payment of taxes and contributions, but with a limit on hours — no more than four per day if you have a main job, - he explained. — When you conclude a civil contract (GPH), you find yourself in the status of an executor, you pay taxes yourself, there are no social guarantees, but there is flexibility.

You can also apply for self-employed status, which allows you to work with individuals and organizations and eliminates complex reporting.

If the main job is related to a state secret or a special regime, a part-time job may require approval from the employer. And in a number of areas, for example, in the civil service, in law enforcement agencies, part—time work outside the service is prohibited," the expert noted.

In addition, the employer may prescribe in the employment contract a ban on working with competitors.

It is worth remembering, Alexey Gavrishev emphasized, that any labor income is subject to taxation. Informal part-time work, therefore, can lead to fines for illegal entrepreneurship or tax evasion.

Before agreeing to a part-time job, evaluate not only the amount of payment, but also the legal side of the issue. Sometimes it is cheaper and safer to formalize the status of a self—employed or part-time worker than to explain later with the tax service or the employer, the expert warned.

Without a written document documenting the agreements, terms and payment procedure, both sides risk being left with nothing if someone behaves in bad faith: either the employer does not get the desired result, or the employee will be left without money, lawyer Oksana Grikevich added. As a rule, in such cases we are talking about small amounts, so it is unlikely that one of the parties will go to court, she concluded.
