Family horror: body horror "One whole" holds the rental lead
Last weekend, the turnout in cinemas for the second time in a year again dropped to the critical level of 700 thousand viewers, according to the EAIS database. At the same time, the top three remained the same. In the first place is the body horror "One Whole" starring Dave Franco and Alison Brie. The film topped up the box office by another 28 million, and its total fees increased to 90 million rubles. The second line of the rating is for the film "My Dad the Bear", which earned 23 million and again became the most watched film of the weekend: more than 70 thousand people came to watch the adventures of Eva Smirnova.
"One Whole" is back in the top
Russian cinemas have again dropped in terms of the number of viewers. Compared to last weekend, attendance dropped by 100,000. According to the EAIS, only 0.7 million viewers reached the cinemas. A similar situation was observed in the last week of July.

Olga Zinyakova, president of the KARO cinema chain, told Izvestia that during the summer lull, the company holds special promotions in which you can buy discounted tickets for films that have proven themselves in long-term rentals and alternative releases. In addition, since the beginning of summer, cinema in KARO has been shown in the open air.
— Our network's repertoire is not limited to mainstream rental films. Within the framework of the KARO/ART project, you can watch original, experimental, classical and cult films in the original language with subtitles. And thanks to the Theater in Cinema project, viewers have the opportunity to see film versions of legendary theatrical productions on the big screen," Olga Zinyakova commented on the situation.

The horror "One Whole" by debutant Michael Shanks became the leader of the rental for the second weekend in a row. Despite the age limit of 18+, the film retained its primacy and added another 23 million rubles to the total box office. The Sundance hit and the trendiest horror movie of this year were watched by 54,000 people. Learn more about the creation of the film in an exclusive interview with Izvestia with director and actors Dave Franco and Alison Brie.
Shanks explores the topic of codependent relationships, with the help of actors and real-life spouses Dave Franco and Alison Brie. The director was inspired by the works of Canadian genius David Cronenberg and put personal feelings into the script. In the story, a young couple Millie and Tim are going through a family crisis. However, after an innocent walk through a mysterious cave, their bodies are drawn to each other with superhuman strength.
The comedy "Athel-Matel" does not stand up to competition
The family comedy "My Dad the Bear" took the second place. The picture earned 23 million rubles (last weekend it was 35 million rubles). It was watched by 70 thousand people. The third line is from the film "To the village of Grandpa" starring Yuri Stoyanov. The holder collected another 22 million and brought the total fees to 725 million rubles.
— The comedy with Yuri Stoyanov is a light summer movie, understandable to the Russian audience, about nostalgia for a carefree childhood in the countryside. As shown by the recent success of the film "Father 2. Grandfather", such a movie was not enough for the audience. A sense of nostalgia, a rating of 6+, and the popularly beloved Yuri Stoyanov in the cast — and "To Grandpa's Village" becomes the perfect summer holdover," Olga Zinyakova commented on the success of the comedy.

The most successful novelty of the weekend was the comedy "Athel-Matel" starring Jan Tsapnik. She started from the fourth place of the rating, earning 18 million rubles in four days. The average attendance and the number of sessions are close to the ranking leader, but the numbers are too weak for a new release. According to Zinyakova, the reason is the uncompetitive rating.
— There are not many competitive novelties released this week, "Athel-Matel" is a comedy about a family that is forced to go to the mountains under a witness protection program, and Jan Tsapnik and Stas Kostiushkin are in the cast. The new release was prevented from overtaking "To Grandpa's Village" and "My Dad is a Bear" by a rating of 16+: competitors work for an audience of 6+, explained Zinyakova.
Teen comedies and horrors are at the top of the box office
The fifth line is occupied by another holdover — "Not alone at home 2". The family comedy with bloggers Milana Khametova and Dava raised 13 million. And on the sixth line there was another novelty — the triquel of the family franchise "Ivan Semenov. The first kiss." The picture showed the worst average occupancy rate in the top ten — only four people, although it was able to earn 12 million rubles in four days.

This is followed by the short film "Sclerosis" with a figure of 9.5 million and the largest number of viewers at the session (22 people). Perhaps the picture is being shown as part of a pre-screening service in conjunction with the Hollywood blockbuster "Fantastic Four".
Also in the top 10 were two horror films — "The Lost Place" with Halle Berry and "The Woman in Black. Bride of the Devil", who earned 9 million and almost 7 million rubles, respectively.

Other novelties did not arouse strong interest among the audience. The musical remake of Shakespeare's tragedy "Juliet and Romeo" earned 3 million rubles, and the crime thriller "Free People" barely crossed the 1 million mark.
Next weekend, the leaders of the Russian box office will compete with the cult action film with Arnold Schwarzenegger "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" and the animated film by Hayao Miyazaki "Princess Mononoke", which will be released for re-release, as well as the horror films "Destination: Skyscraper 613", "The Curse. Exorcist's blood", "Smile. A new nightmare."

Among the expected releases are the adventure family film "Spy Kids" starring Dmitry Nagiyev, the melodrama "She Said Yes!" starring Scarlett Johansson and the thriller "Eden" starring Jude Law, Ana de Armas and Sydney Sweeney.
