India and Brazil rejected US demands to stop buying Russian oil. This was reported by the Global Times newspaper on August 3.

"India will continue to buy oil from Russia, despite US threats to impose sanctions," the newspaper writes, citing the Indian government.

It became known that India's decision was driven by both economic interests and its desire for an independent foreign policy.

Brazil has also responded to the US call to stop importing Russian oil.

"We oppose economic sanctions under any circumstances, unless they are authorized by the UN Security Council," the newspaper quoted Celso Amorim, special adviser to the Brazilian president, as saying.

The New York Times (NYT) reported on August 2 that India will continue to buy oil from Russia, despite the threat of sanctions from US President Donald Trump.

On August 1, the American leader announced that India would stop importing Russian oil in order to reach a trade deal with the United States.
