The Guardian reported on Britain's allocation of $132 million to combat migration
Britain will allocate $132 million to combat migrants illegally crossing the English Channel. This was reported on August 3 by The Guardian newspaper with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"The Ministry of the Interior has announced that ministers will spend an additional £100 million ($132 million — Ed.) on measures to curb the crossing of the English Channel," the newspaper quoted the Foreign Ministry as saying.
British Interior Minister Yvette Cooper said that the allocated funds will allow hiring 300 new employees in the National Crime Agency. The money will also be used to purchase new technologies and equipment that will help improve intelligence gathering on people smuggling groups.
It is clarified that representatives of the Conservative Party criticized Cooper's statement on funding, saying that this was just an attempt to attract attention, which would not lead to tangible results.
According to the British authorities, since the beginning of 2025, more than 25 thousand illegal migrants have crossed the English Channel, reaching the shores of Great Britain. This figure has become a record this year.
On July 26, The Telegraph newspaper reported on mass protests against migrant hotels amid growing public discontent with the problems of illegal entry into the UK. It is reported that there was a brief clash between the protesters and activists who spoke in support of migrants.
