Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has ordered the establishment of Artist's Day, which is proposed to be celebrated on January 17. This was announced on August 3 by the press service of the Government of the Russian Federation.

"Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin ordered to fix a new professional holiday in the calendar — Artist's Day. It is supposed to be celebrated on January 17, the birthday of Konstantin Sergeyevich Stanislavsky, the first People's Artist of the USSR, one of the founders of the Moscow Art Theater, an outstanding teacher and creator of the acting system," the Cabinet said in a statement on its website.

It is noted that January 17 will be a holiday for musicians and pop performers, theater, cinema and circus performers. The document instructs the Ministry of Culture to issue a departmental regulatory act within six months, consolidating this decision.

The government of the Russian Federation clarified that the decision on this was made after an appeal from Vladimir Mashkov, Chairman of the Union of Theatrical Figures of the Russian Federation.

On August 3, the head of the Fair Russia — For Truth faction, Sergei Mironov, proposed postponing part of the New Year holidays to May. He also supported the idea of making September 1 a day off for parents of schoolchildren to help them.
