An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 was recorded in southern Mexico. This was reported on August 2 on the website of the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).

The seismic event occurred 70 km northeast of the city of Oaxaca, which is home to 255 thousand people. It was recorded at 17:58 UTC (20:58 Moscow time).

It is noted that the earthquake was located at a depth of 57 km.

On August 1, EMSC reported that a magnitude 5.5 earthquake had struck off the east coast of Japan. It is specified that the seismic event occurred 108 km from the city of Nemuro in the northeast of the island of Hokkaido with a population of 31 thousand people.
