Rubio called the step of European countries to recognize Palestine insignificant
The recognition of Palestine by European countries has no significance for the United States, since it is impossible without Israel's consent. This was announced on July 31 by the American Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
"It doesn't matter [for the United States]. <...> First of all, none of these [European] countries is capable of creating a Palestinian state. There can be no Palestinian state if Israel does not agree to this," he said on Fox News channel.
According to him, the leaders of the states that intend to recognize the sovereignty of the Palestinian state not only "cannot say where it is located," but are also unable to determine who will lead it.
The Secretary of State also stressed that, in his opinion, lasting peace in the Gaza Strip is impossible until the Palestinian Hamas movement is demilitarized.
On July 30, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Ottawa's intention to recognize Palestine. In addition, a day earlier, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer made the same statement, noting that the country would recognize Palestine if Israel could not achieve a complete cease-fire in that area.
