The media reported on the possible recognition of Palestine by Germany under certain conditions.

The German government may accelerate the process of recognizing Palestine as a separate state if Israel annexes the territories of the West Bank of the Jordan River. This was reported on July 31 by Bloomberg, citing a statement by German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefuhl.

Ahead of his trip to Israel, Wadefoul said that the German government would not back down from its goal of creating two states, adding that "for Germany, recognition of a Palestinian state is rather the last stage of the process, but such a process should begin now."

"Although French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said this month that their governments could recognize a Palestinian state, [German Chancellor Friedrich] Merz made it clear that recognizing Palestinian sovereignty could only be one of the last steps towards a comprehensive agreement," the publication says.

It is reported that the two-day trip of the German Foreign Minister to Israel and the West Bank may play a key role in rethinking Berlin's policy towards Tel Aviv.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced earlier, on July 30, that Canada intends to recognize the state of Palestine. However, to do this, the Palestinian Authority will need to reform its governance system, as well as hold elections in the state in 2026, in which Hamas will not be able to participate.

On July 29, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also announced his readiness to recognize Palestine at the UN General Assembly.

Prior to that, on July 24, French leader Emmanuel Macron announced plans to recognize Palestine. He noted that this will contribute to ending the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip, as well as rescue and comprehensive assistance to local residents.
