The European Union (EU) plans to reduce the amount of aid to Ukraine by €1.5 billion due to delayed reforms. This was reported by Bloomberg on July 29.

According to the newspaper, Ukraine has not fulfilled three of the 16 indicators required to receive the full amount of €4.5 billion. Because of this, in June 2025, Kiev requested a partial payment of only €3 billion from the EU.

Bloomberg emphasizes that Ukraine is "deeply dependent" on financial support from Western partners, who have conditioned this assistance on "carrying out reforms and fighting corruption."

"The EU remains extremely concerned about any amendments to Ukraine's anti-corruption legislation and is carefully assessing Kiev's next steps," European Commission (EC) spokesman Guillaume Mercier said in a statement.

According to him, Kiev has a year left to complete three planned reforms.

Earlier in the day, Ukrainian media reported that Brussels had already suspended financial assistance to Kiev due to the law on the dependence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), which had previously been adopted by local authorities. The author of the article admits that Ukraine is "completely dependent" on Western financing.

The German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported on July 28 that the EC had sent Ukraine a warning about a possible complete suspension of financial assistance from the European fund to Kiev. It was noted that these measures could be taken if pressure continues to be exerted on the Ukrainian anti-corruption authorities NABU and SAP of Ukraine.
